| In the late 1950¡¦s, the faculty at Tunghai
University needed an elementary school for their children
closer to campus. In response to this need and with the
support of the university community, Tunghai President,
Mr. Wu Teh-Yao, led the effort to found Hwai-en Middle
School in August of 1958. |
| |
| Mr. Wu chose the name ¡§Hwai-en¡¨ for the
school because he was inspired by the idealistic principles
and faith of Christianity. The Chinese characters Ãh®¦
(Hwai-en ) embody learning or study in conjunction with
blessings from family, teachers and God. With this school
mission, the Hwai-en administration and teachers worked
to create a positive learning environment for children
to nurture their minds and develop wholesome character. |
| |
| For over 40 years, the mission of Hwai-en
has been to provide an excellent educational program
and provide a rich learning environment for Taiwan¡¦s
leaders of tomorrow. As a result of its superb teaching
and successful Hwai-en graduates, the school developed
a strong reputation in the community and earned the respect
of local parents, teachers and community leaders. |
| |
| In April 2000, Hwai-en Middle School expanded
to include high school and later changed its name to
the Affiliated High School of Tunghai University in January
2002. At the same time, the Master Program of Education
was established at Tunghai University. As a result of
these changes, Tunghai University is the only comprehensive
educational institution in the R.O.C. to offer schooling
for Taiwan¡¦s youth ranging from kindergarten, elementary
school, junior high school, senior high school, undergraduate,
graduate and doctoral programs. |
| |
| The current principal of the Affiliated
High School of Tunghai University, Mr. Shei-Liu Wen,
brings with him over 30 years of educational leadership
skills. As the school continues to grow, they are adding
new goals of ¡¥delicacy¡¦, ¡¥brilliancy¡¦, ¡¥warmth¡¦, and
¡¥innovation¡¦ to the educational program. In this spirit,
the principal, teachers and students of the Affiliated
High School of Tunghai University embrace educational
innovations of the 21st century and look forward with
optimism. |
