The Experimental Farm and Dairy

In 1973, The University cleared land for its farm. Two years later, in 1975, when it established the Department of Animal Science, the farm became the Experimental Farm. It is a place where teachers and students of Animal Science engage in experimental research, thus bringing together the twin disciplines of theory and practice, and thereby attaining one of the principle academic goals of the University. It is a facility where cooperation between industry and academia, as well as service to society is engaged in. The Experimental Farm is situated on 50 hectares of land, making it the largest farm on its kind in the central part of Taiwan. It is simultaneously an educational and research facility, a place for students to gain practical experience, and a working production farm. It supports 200 milk cows that, along with 2,000 cows belonging to dairy farms in Taichung and Changhwa and raw milk being used to produce different dairy products. It is the only university-run milk production plant in the country to have received a Department of Economic Affairs plant registration (number 991095277104) and a certified GMP dairy plant.
