As the number of public and private universities increased in recent years, the academic competition has intensified. The best will become star universities, while the less competitive will be forced to close. As Taiwan upgrades its research, success will be increasingly measured by international research standards. To promote Tunghai University's capabilities the Center for Applied Technology was set up. It has two missions The Center has two missions:
　
1) Share Valuable Scientific Instruments

Sharing expensive scientific equipment saves funds, personnel, resources and space. Cooperative maintenance and management also saves funds to purchase other high technological equipment. Working together professors can seek advice and students can also cooperate and receive specialized training.
　
2) Cooperate in Science and Technology Research

The Center will encourage interdisciplinary teamwork to research and solve scientific and technological problems and serve industrial and commercial organizations. The center will cultivate talent to overcome obstacles in industry.
